Made locally.
Chosen by us.
Bottle Keg Can is an independent bottle shop in Jannali, in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire. Everything on the shelves comes from independent Australian and New Zealand producers making under 500,000 litres a year. Nothing imported, nothing mass-made. It’s owner-run, and it’s organised by how you actually drink — so the help is built into the shop.
The rules we keep
Saying no is how the yes means something. These are the constraints, stated plainly.
- Independent only. Every producer is independently owned, no global brands, no house labels.
- Australian and New Zealand only. Nothing imported. Travel isn’t required for great drinks (and often the lack of travel means they’re even better!)
- Under 500,000 litres a year. A genuine small-producer cap, as craft and quality don’t scale without compromise.
- Nothing mass-made. Crafted, not manufactured. If it doesn’t earn its place, it doesn’t get one.
- Organised by how you drink. Eight beer fridges sorted by drinking style, a wall of carefully organised wine, and unique expressions of local whisky that we’ve picked because it’s great.
- Owner-run. No shareholder decisions, just a guy who cares deeply about finding great stuff that’s made here and sharing those discoveries with others.
Our story, in short
When it comes to booze, Australia and New Zealand make some of the best things I’ve ever tasted. Importing and selling international products started to feel unnecessary when there are so many incredible drinks being made right here.
When you shop at Bottle Keg Can, you’re directly supporting the people behind those drinks. People who have often stepped from safer careers to dedicate themselves to making something genuinely great.
We’re also here to help you discover new favourites, with no judgement. You won’t be laughed at for not knowing the difference between East Coast and West Coast IPAs, or telling your Pinot Noir from your Gamay.
Nothing makes us happier than when someone comes back with a big grin telling us about something new they tried and loved.
That’s the whole point.
We’re just getting started. There’s plenty more to come.
Who’s behind the counter
Mark
The one behind the brand. After tiring of being a small cog in a big machine in the corporate world, he moved to follow a passion. Beer, whisky and wine are long-term loves. He’ll happily talk you through all of the beers and whiskies in the shop. His go-to favourites are bold IPAs and a good English-style bitter, and he loves to finish an evening with a fun, cask-strength whisky.
Kate
Coming from a wine background, Kate brought another level of focus and nerdiness to the wine curation at Bottle Keg Can. She’ll happily talk you through every bottle that sits on the shelves, because she’s poured her heart into choosing the right ones. She loves a zippy chardonnay or a chilled red, and is quite partial to a well-made negroni.
